This class will focus on the multiple aspects of strength, flexibility and body awareness we can find in modern, without adhering to one particular technique.  Our influences will be diverse, with elements of Lyrical, African, Jazz and Ballet traditions with a focus of musicality and rhythm.

MODERN dance is based on creative self-expression rather than on technical virtuosity. Modern dance is a more relaxed, free style of dance, in which choreographers use emotions and moods to design their own steps, in contrast to ballet's structured code of steps. It has a deliberate use of gravity, whereas ballet strives to be light and airy. There are many different styles and practiced techniques of modern, but here at Highlands Dance Studio, we will incorporate all techniques to best diversify our dancers. Dancers who participate in modern dance are required to wear the proper attire: any solid color leotard, black tights or shorts, and bare feet. Hair must be pulled back from face.
